Aron Thompson is both a filmmaker and novelist. He has no set ambition, he just follows the ideas. Just when you think his work is about one thing, he contradicts it with another. Lets look at his career.
Aron Thompson grew up in the countryside, it was clear from a boy he had access to his imagination like no other. At the age of sixteen Aron fell head of heels in love with filmmaking, as he grew gaining life experience, both bartending and working as a web designer, reality became clear. Still tapping into his imagination he wanted to become an independent filmmaker, both writing and directing his own films. At the age of twenty one he began work on Welcome to Wonderland, he fist feature length film, he wrapped up key shooting aged twenty two, spending another year getting it past post production. Aron describes the process as both painful and suicidal, but he has his first baby. It was his early manic period of elven short films that pushed Aron, later taking on his first feature length film. Making him one of the youngest ever feature length filmmakers. Aron is said to be starting production on another film, whilst in the funding phase of another. Oh, he’s also a writer on the side, publishing two novels and working on a third. It’s clear filmmaking is his first love, whilst writing is like his dirty secret. Aron Thompson is the leading example on self sacrifice and just doing it yourself. Aron faced a life time of criticism and still faces it today. Despite being controversial and private in the public eye, Aron Thompson himself would like to express that he’s very normal and dull in real life. It must also be said his work doesn’t stop at writing and filmmaking. He has also podcasted, done stand-up, done photography, shot music videos, done photography and filmed events. Aron is leading the way in self expression.
Grime Filmmaking
Aron found film school stifling. Describing how his lectures and peers cared more about following the production standard, i.e. clean images and basic editing styles. After leaving film school, Aron started the new wave of Grime filmmaking.
Aron was aged only nineteen when he came up with the idea of just doing it himself. By twenty one he had eleven short films. Ten of the Eleven were created in just one year. Making it one of the maddest periods of creation ever seen. Grime filmmaking got it’s name through Aron’s love of grime rap and just going to a location and dreaming up a film, on not a lot to go on.
Welcome to Wonderland
In 2018 production started on the debut film of Aron Thompson. Production was both gruelling and painful. Much of the production eat into Aron’s private life. At some points it wasn’t clear if it was even going to get finished.
Welcome to Wonderland follows the last days of six literal characters dealing with their own mortality. The film starts with a creator, creating both the world the story exists in, and the plot. Once we are thrown into the world, we are met with many life changing calls by the central characters. We can only be human in the face of danger.
